Garlic - Adding this spice is to not only to add a delectable flavor to the chicken, but also to add beneficial health benefits. This recipe calls for only a pinch of powdered garlic between your fingers. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC) , the point at which garlic is toxic to a dog is feeding the equivalent of 13 whole cloves in one sitting. This recipe puts the equivalent of 1/3 clove which is served out over 8-10 meals.

  • Garlic is high in inulin, amino acids, sulphur, zinc, potassium and phosphorus. It also contains vitamin A, C, calcium, magnesium, manganese, selenium, germanium and B-complex vitamins.
  • Garlic’s pungent energy warms the body. Pungent herbs move energy upwards and outwards to the body’s surface, improving circulation. Garlic also has an affinity for the lungs, large intestine, spleen and stomach.
  • Garlic helps detoxify the body. It supports beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract and eliminates harmful bacteria. I use it in the fall, winter and early spring as a detox and to balance out the digestive system.
  • As a liver enhancer, garlic breaks down wastes before they enter the bloodstream. It also helps your dog assimilate nutrients and eliminate wastes through the entire digestive tract.
  • Garlic is high in sulphur and fructans (inulin and oligofructose). Fructans can cause digestive upset in dogs suffering from leaky gut, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. When undigested fructans ferment in the small intestine, they cause bloating, gas and constipation.

Ingredients

1 lb raw Chicken Tenderloins

1 tsp Oregano

1 tsp Dill

1 tsp Parsley

1 tsp Turmeric

1 tsp Ginger

1 Tsp Basil

1/2 Tsp Cinnamon

3 TBSP Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Directions

Take 4-5 Tenderloins (approx 1 lb) and lay on a dish. Take out a medium size fry pan and put 3 tablespoons of oilve oil in and put over medium heat.

  • Season the chicken strips on one side with each of the herbs (Oregano, Dill, Parsley, Basil). Instead of shaking from the spice container, shake a little in the palm of your hand and pinch between fingers and sprinkle over each strip.
  • Then carefully tap a little of the remaining spices (cinnamon, ginger, turmeric) over the meat.
  • Once all spices are applied to one side, place the seasoned side face down in the now heated oil. Repeat the seasonings starting with the spices, then the herbs on the unseasoned side facing up in the frypan.
  • Cook for approx 4-5 min, then turn over for another 4 min. The sides should have a light browning and actually take on a yellowish tint due to turmeric.
  • Using a meat thermometer, check that the internal temperature of the strip should be 160F degrees.

Remove the chicken and place on paper towels to absorb any excess olive oil.

Preparation:

  • Allow the chicken to be warm to the touch
  • Using a non-serrated knife, slice narrow strips ACROSS the width of the chicken
  • Then gathering up these slices, slice the length of the meat which is with the grain of the chicken. This creates tiny cubes that you place in a Tupperware container.

When preparing to use the topper, place kibble on a plate or dish and add the chicken over top by taking pinches of the meat between your fingers and rolling it to create a fine shredded topper. This is to prevent the dog from eating the topper and leaving the kibble.

WARNING: Do not leave this food out for long due to fresh chicken component can breed harmful bacteria and give your pet upset tummy.
