For the first time ever, this category of pet toxins has been added to the official ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center's annual list of top toxins. And it's about time, as a recent survey shows this category has become the most frequent cause of poisoning, especially for dogs.

If your pet's food comes out of a bag, you need to know about this warning by the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Recent testing detected at least seven potentially toxic chemicals on 11 pet food packages from seven pet food brands that could place both you and your pet at risk.

TOXIC TO DOGS: Keep in mind that some ‘people’ foods can be toxic to dogs. Since many of the signs of toxicity are similar, consult your veterinarian without delay if your pet appears distressed, listless or in pain. The good news is that, in most cases, treatment for toxic poisoning can be successful if administered in time.
